Sport Psychology is a specialization within psychology that seeks to understand psychological/mental factors that affect performance in sport, physical activity and exercise and apply these to enhance indivdual and team performance. The dicipline aims to increase performance by managing emotions and minimising the psychological effects of poor performance and injury. Some of the most important skills taught amongst others are awareness, goal setting, visualisation, relaxation, control, and self talk.
Alex Leyland is a sports psychology consultant who has worked with sports performers at differing levels. Alex has worked with elite sportspeople across a wide range of sports including, elite level swimming professional football and groups of golfers. Alex also enjoys working with keen amateurs and those who are looking to break into professional sport.
